Creating a Comma Separated File from an Excel File

1.       Open your xls file in Excel.

2.       On the File menu, click ‘Save As’.  The Save As window will be displayed with the name of your file in the File Name field.

3.       In the Save as type field select CSV (Comma delimited).  This will change the extension of your file name in the File Name field.

4.       Press Save.

This will have created a comma separated file.  If you try to reopen the file it will automatically open in Excel because the file is associated with this format.  However, if you select Properties on the File menu you will see that this is a Comma Separated Values (CSV) file.  If you open the file in Notepad, you will see it in Comma Separated format.
