Definitions of credit card terminology
The words used to describe the dollar amounts related to credit cards can be confusing. Here’s a quick guide to the terms used in ScotiaConnect:

- Credit limit is the maximum amount that is available to spend on a credit card account.
- Outstanding balance/balance is the amount you have used on your account, excluding pending transactions, fees, interest, or other transactions that have not yet posted to your account.
- Posted transactions are payments, purchases, cash advances, interest, fees, and other transactions that are posted to your account.
- Available credit/amount available to spend is the amount you have left to use on your account. It is calculated by finding the sum of balance, fees, interest, and pending transactions and subtracting that sum from your credit limit.
